Mariska Hargitay has had a particularly eventful summer. In late May, not long after wrapping Season 22 of Law & Order: SVU, the actress suffered terrible injuries to both of her legs. Then, in early July, the actress tripped in the rain outside of a Black Widow screening and shattered her ankle. Melissa McCarthy, an Oscar nominee, expressed her support for Hargitay in a very public way just a few days later, and now McCarthy is talking about why she went so far for her buddy after her injury.

McCarthy appeared on The Tonight Show recently, and when host Jimmy Fallon asked her to explain her outspoken support for Hargitay's rehabilitation, she said: “Well, yeah, she, like, rolled her ankle and it was a really severe break. And she's a really good texter, and I'm terrible...She sent me a really funny text like, 'Oh, don't worry. I'm just here in a lot of pain, recovering. I guess you're too busy to respond to my texts.' And so I was like, 'OK, game on.' So, now I have to make it seem like this is why I didn't get back to you, 'cause I was petitioning for prayers.”
