Kit Harington Opens Up On Mental Health Struggles On Game Of Thrones.

Kit Harington Opens Up On Mental Health Struggles On Game Of Thrones.

Being a member of a long-running hit television show may be a game changer for any actor's career. Along with all of the possible benefits, such as a bigger profile, more possibilities, and better money, someone who makes it big by winning a role on a hugely popular show may also face new disadvantages. Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow on Game of Thrones for eight seasons, knows a lot about this. He recently opened up about his mental health difficulties while on the HBO show, but he also revealed something he appreciated about his job as Jon Snow...peeing outside.

Fans of Game of Thrones were likely startled to learn that Kit Harington had spent about the last month of the show's run in a Connecticut facility for a "mental health retreat" because he was dealing with stress from the show's closure, as well as some alcohol misuse difficulties. While chatting on The Jess Cagle Show about taking a break from acting after Game of Thrones concluded, Harington shared a little more about the experience, saying: “I went through some mental health difficulties after Thrones, and during the end of Thrones, to be honest. I think it was directly due to the nature of the show and what I’d been doing for years. I think I took sort of a break after Thrones, where it was, ‘I don’t want to work for a year. I want to really, kind of concentrate on myself.’ And I think I’m really happy I did that.”
