Eternals’ Gemma Chan Shares Her Feelings About Playing A New MCU Character After Her Role In Captain Marvel

Eternals’ Gemma Chan Shares Her Feelings About Playing A New MCU Character After Her Role In Captain Marvel

Many actors aspire to star in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film or television series. Even a minor role can have a significant impact on an actor's career, and appearing in a Marvel film virtually guarantees his or her place in cinematic history. So it's a big deal that Gemma Chan from Eternals was able to land a second role in the MCU after her performance in Captain Marvel. Recently, the actress discussed what it was like to return to the franchise in a new role.

Gemma Chan is embarking on a new phase in her career as Sersi, a powerful sympathetic Eternal. While she may have assumed she was done with the MCU after her Captain Marvel tenure, she had a chance encounter with Kevin Feige while promoting Crazy Rich Asians that led to her return. Through Eternals, the actress spoke to Empire about what it was like to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a different role: “I feel very lucky to have been welcomed back into the MCU so quickly after my first appearance; the reception has been very warm. I feel fortunate because we had a lot of crossover in the crew between the two films so there was continuity in that sense, but these are completely different projects, in completely different times, the characters are different.”
